Fast-paced action and a variety of gravity-defying stunts are the core concepts of the third-person MMO GunZ: The Duel.

There are quite a few approaches when it comes to creating an MMO game. Some developers are looking to blend in a distinctive RPG twist, while others want to thrill the players with an unparalleled storyline. GunZ: The Duel has taken a unique position by creating what appears to be a first-person shooter, scaling the camera back to third-person and then packing in nonstop action with extremely balanced competitive play. For those that are on the search for a new action title to get drawn in to, it is difficult to go wrong with GunZ: The Duel.

As with many action MMOs that require an exceptionally good ping to other players, GunZ did go through a rocky few years for those that were being matched with players on the other side of the world. In a twist of fate, this is also a testament to just how competitive this game can be and many continue to enjoy it on both private and public servers with a number of updated patches.

The premise of the game is simple as players create a unique character in a fictional world which they can then use in competitive online games or in a co-op quest mode. Within the quest mode, there is almost no story line. as players must group together in a prison, mansion or dungeon map to kill a specific amount of computer characters ranging from 18 to 44. The game is over when either the entire team has been killed or when all quests have been completed by each individual player. While the quest system does help players progress through a relatively simple ranking system for new armor and weapons, most players head to the competitive servers for the intense game play within the death matches.

Combat is broken into both melee and ranged weapons, with a variety of tactics and combinations. While advanced players will have a relatively large advantage when it comes to better weaponry and armor, the overall balance of the game is exceptional. This includes the use of gravity-defying acrobatics, which have become the cornerstone of competitive play with flips, spins, running up walls, dodging bullets and more. In the long list of MMOs that are currently available today, GunZ: The Duel remains one of the best options when it comes to unending action and a unique style.
